Four Advent Resources from Around the World

During the Advent season, Christians around the world practice time travel. We deepen our faith by spending 24 days re-connecting with the circumstances surrounding Jesus’ birth and by remembering why his coming was worth anticipating in the first place.

This year, to help you bridge the gap between the historic events we remember during the Advent season and the practical realities Christians face in the world today, we would like to highlight four free resources from our friends around the globe.

Reflections from Bethlehem
Red Letter Christians has assembled a unique Advent devotional guide centering the voices of Christians currently living in Bethlehem, in modern-day Palestine. This devotional invites us to consider the world-changing truth that God is with us, Emmanuel—not from a place of comfort, but in the rubble of suffering, injustice, and violence.
The Weary World Rejoices
Author Kate Bowler invites us into the tension of ‘already’ and ‘not yet,’ where we hold the fragile hope that everything broken will be made whole, that every sorrow will be met with joy, and that every deep longing will be filled with love. This guide is available in personal, small group, and sermon-prep editions.
Boundless: An Anti-Colonial Advent Devotional
In many ex-colonies, being Christian has been recast as a betrayal of the homeland—a symbol of colonial oppression. In this devotional from Justice Unbound, over a dozen Christian leaders from around the world come together to reflect on how Advent calls us to authentic hope and justice, even when dealing with the legacy of unjust actions and systems.
One Family of God/Una Sola Familia de Dios

Advent commemorates the coming of our Savior to a family that had to flee to Egypt. This Advent guide from the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns contains reflections, questions, prayers, and actions based on the experience of Maryknoll missioners who have lived and worked with migrants and refugees from around the world. It is available in both English and Spanish.
